AI Academy Asia CEO Moderates UN Panel on Space-Based AI Computing

B. Bolor-Erdene, founder and CEO of AI Academy Asia, moderated the international panel "Beyond Earth: AI, Space Computing and Humanity's Next Frontier" at the UN-organized AI for Good Global Summit 2026.
As global data centers and artificial intelligence place mounting pressure on Earth's energy resources, the session brought together technology experts to examine why space is emerging as the next computing infrastructure for AI.
SpaceX — Stephanie Bednarek, VP of Commercial Sales
Asked by the moderator whether orbital AI data centers are realistically achievable — a concept that still sounds like science fiction to many ministers and scientists — Bednarek said solar power in space is the most viable answer to the energy and cooling constraints facing terrestrial data centers. She noted that SpaceX's Starship rocket is opening the path to launching millions of AI data satellites into orbit.
Alibaba Cloud and Zhejiang Lab — Wang Jian, Founder
When the moderator raised the case for treating space as computing infrastructure rather than merely a domain for observation, Wang Jian responded that roughly 90 percent of data collected in space is lost because bandwidth is insufficient to transmit it back to Earth. Running AI models directly in orbit, he said, would allow natural disaster and emergency information to be processed in minutes rather than days.
UN AI Scientific Advisory Board — Professor M. Bilge Demirköz
On questions of security for space-based AI systems and the risks posed by solar storms and geomagnetic events, panelists outlined both technological and policy responses being developed within the framework of the Geneva summit.
The organizers extended their thanks to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the AI for Good community, and looked ahead to next year's summit.
